Belmont, California may soon be making history as the first town to ban smoking in private residences. Yes, the privacy of your own home! They are trying to pass a law that would require apartments and condominiums to go smoke free. If not 100%, this law would at least require a percentage of their housing to be smoke free.
What is interesting is that medical science has never made a statistically significant link between second-hand smoke and Cancer. This claim is, however, the one that is getting bills like this through.
The other piece of this is that the town would now be placing regulations on a business of private residences. It is a little too close for comfort for many apartment and condo renters and especially for owners.
Whatever happened to the freedom this country once boasted of?
